FAQ

Questions

Why is the expedition priced the way it is?+

This is not a standard sightseeing tour — it is a fully supported remote flying expedition through one of the most isolated and logistically challenging environments on Earth. The expedition is designed to give pilots the rare opportunity to access world-class flying terrain in the Mongolian Gobi with a professional support structure that prioritises safety, comfort and maximising flying opportunities throughout the journey. The cost reflects the scale of support and logistics required, including:

  • Experienced paragliding expedition leaders and flying guides
  • Dedicated medic and remote-area safety support
  • Professional local Mongolian drivers and logistics crew
  • Fully equipped 4x4 overland transport throughout the expedition
  • Fuel, desert logistics and remote recovery capability
  • A full camp support team handling setup and operations daily
  • Local Mongolian chefs preparing every meal during the expedition
  • Wild desert camping infrastructure including communal dining and hangout tents
  • Access to remote flying zones that would be extremely difficult to reach independently
  • Flexible scheduling to maximise weather windows and flying conditions

Operating safely and comfortably in the remote Gobi Desert requires a large amount of coordination, personnel, equipment and local knowledge. The expedition is built so participants can focus on flying, exploration and the experience itself, while an experienced team manages the complex logistics behind the scenes. Beyond the flying, this is also an immersive overland adventure through Mongolia's vast desert landscapes — combining expedition travel, wild camping, cultural connection and remote aerial exploration in a way very few people ever experience.

Do I need paragliding experience?+

This expedition is designed for pilots with a minimum of PG2. Contact us for experience requirements and recommended certifications if you're unsure.

What type of accommodation is included?+

The expedition includes hotel accommodation in Ulaanbaatar at the beginning and end of the journey, combined with fully supported remote desert camping throughout the Gobi expedition. While in the desert, participants will stay in individual ground tents at carefully selected wild camp locations, with a full support crew managing camp logistics and daily operations. Camps are centred around a large communal mess tent used for shared meals, relaxing, briefings and evening campfire gatherings. A local Mongolian support team and camp chefs will prepare all meals throughout the expedition, creating a comfortable and well-supported experience despite the remote wilderness setting. On select nights, traditional Mongolian ger camps may also be used depending on location and conditions.

Is the expedition fully guided?+

Yes. The expedition is fully supported by an experienced local and international team throughout the journey. Support includes professional 4x4 drivers, local Mongolian guides, expedition logistics staff, camp crew, a dedicated medic, and paragliding support personnel. The team will manage transport, navigation, camp operations, meal preparation, safety coordination and daily logistics, allowing participants to focus on flying, exploration and the overall experience.

What are the weather conditions?+

Expect classic Gobi Desert conditions throughout the expedition. Days are typically dry, sunny and comfortably warm, while temperatures can drop sharply after sunset — especially in open desert camps. Mornings and evenings are often crisp, with occasional cold overnight conditions.

What gear should I bring?+

A detailed packing list will be provided after booking confirmation.

Deposits and refunds?+

The deposit is non-refundable. If attendance becomes impossible, you may transfer your slot to another qualified person, provided timing permits.

What if the expedition is cancelled?+

If the expedition is cancelled by the event organisers due to unforeseen circumstances and is not postponed or rescheduled, all participant payments will be fully refunded, excluding any applicable bank transfer or transaction fees.

What if I have travel issues (visa denied, missed flight)?+

Travel-related disruptions or personal travel complications are not eligible for refunds and should be claimed through the participant's travel insurance provider. However, officially documented government-imposed travel restrictions issued by the country hosting the expedition, which directly prevent participation, will qualify for a refund.
